Fashion and celebrity have long had a powerful connection – but admittedly, it’s usually female actors and singers who stride the runway for A list designers. Age is no barrier, with Helen Mirren, Jane Fonda and Andie McDowell all recently ‘walking’ for big names.
Right now, though, older male celebs are having their moment. No longer relegated to moody, black and white shots of themselves thoughtfully tuning a guitar, or looking wise, the over-60s are increasingly keen to collab with high fashion.
On Sunday, acclaimed actor Jeff Goldblum surprised onlookers as he emerged onto the Prada catwalk during Milan fashion week. The actor, 69, stars in the Jurassic Park franchise, and has recently released two albums, as well as appearing in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder.
Dramatically lit, Goldblum modelled a dark, fur-trimmed overcoat and cast a looming shadow over spectators.

“We were thinking about meaningful fashion, pieces that make sense,’’ Prada’s show notes read. “Clothes that make people feel important, and that are therefore, in themselves, important, not something to discard.’’
Goldblum wasn’t alone at the show when it came to Hollywood representation.
Fellow star Kyle MacLachlan, 62, star of Twin Peaks, and unforgettably, Charlotte’s unhappy husband Trey in Sex and the City, opened the show which Goldblum closed wearing a dark overcoat and shimmering periwinkle blue – the colour of the year, just announced by Pantone – trousers with matching gloves.

The show also featured six other key actors, chosen to signify “real men”, including the Queen’s Gambit star Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Sex Education actor Asa Butterfield and Moonlight actor Ashton Sanders.
“Actors are interpreters of reality, employed to echo truth through their portrayals,” said Prada. “Real men, recognised figures, they bring a new facet of reality.”
In November, fellow Italian design house Gucci showcased actors in LA with their fashion ‘Love Parade’, featuring House of Gucci star Jared Leto, 49. He channelled ’70s Hollywood to perfection, in a double-breasted tweed blazer with no shirt, laced leather white pants and white boots.
But when it comes to making the most of an actor’s ability to project style, confidence and glamour, Prada has cornered the market. In past campaigns, they have worked with The Piano actor, Adrien Brody, 48, Gary Oldman, 63, and Willem Dafoe, 66.
Seems fashion is no longer a young man’s game – at least, not if you’re an A-list actor.
