Vintage clothes are finding new energy in an era of re-commerce and upcycling, and vintage purveyor and owner of one of India’s first vintage shops, with a collection debut at Galeries Lafayette in Paris this year, Divya Saini is making everything old new again.
“As a kid, I would make my own clothes out of my mum’s old saris and dupattas just to dress apart. I guess the need for innovating and my treasure hunting skills led me to stumble upon my first vintage store in Paris five years ago,” Saini had told us in an interview for Vogue India’s September issue. Ever since, it’s been a journey into breaking new ground in the vintage market. Her process, that involves yearly visits to the far flung corners of France, has given India its dose of secondhand clothing.
Now, five years after starting her vintage store she kickstarted Bodements Studio this year, a space for upcycling vintage saris into contemporary silhouettes, and also ventured into home decor, with antique Parisian mirrors and other curiosities from around the world. “Financial instability, a shift in mindset and the rise of social media are encouraging everyone to consider secondhand clothing,” she tells me, after her making her first sourcing trip back to Europe after the pandemic.
Her winter curation of vintage goods ranging faux fur, cowboy boots, trenches and light jackets is ready to launch, and to bring it out of its time capsule, she’s shot the collection in Paris with a dream team. She takes Vogue behind the shoot. Excerpts from the interview below:

From knits to faux fur, take us inside the very winter vintage collection from Bodements…
The new collection focuses on classic jackets, from 80s inspired Chanel silhouettes to more quirky Christian Lacroix, from velvets to corduroy and a bit of faux fur. It is very fall winter (as it should be) and includes a beautiful collection of knits, some Christmas special printed ones and others with quirky colours. I have also picked some beautiful cowboy boots (my personal favourite), oh and a crazy amount of accessories.
