If you’re a 90’s kid you would definitely understand the craze around Pokémon. While it was a big deal back in the day, it lost its relevance over a brief period. But Pokémon is finally making a comeback and this time in the luxury space with a special limited-edition collaboration with Balmain, in an effort by the brand to reach out to its millennial fans. Say hello to the new Balmain x Pokémon collection that’s quirky, fun and a major throwback!
Balmain’s creative director Olivier Rousteing is known for his unconventional collaborations and this is just one of the many. Rousteing admitted that the bright pop aesthetics and captivating creatures had always appealed to him. He further said in a press release, “Today, they make me think of a simpler time, when we all shared a rosy vision of all the positive changes that we were certain that digital innovations would make possible. And that’s a key reason why I’m so happy to partner with Pokémon on this collection—because, right now, we could all use a reminder of those past moments of hope and optimism.”
Speaking on the new collaboration Kenji Okubo, President, The Pokémon Company international in the same press release said, “Balmain is an iconic fashion house that continues to capture the world’s attention with its inspired designs and elevated creativity. In Balmain, we found a partner that shares our values and alongside them, we have been able to create something truly special that crosses the physical and digital worlds with fashion.”
However, both brands have a common thread — their love for bold and eclectic looks.
The Balmain x Pokémon limited-edition collection features Balmain’s signature silhouettes in its iconic Labyrinth print. From slouched hoodies, sweats, jackets, oversized tops and bottoms to sleek sneakers and backpacks, the collection is casual and laidback. Being effortless and clever, the pieces channel the bold graphic treatment that one immediately recognizes as Pokémon.
Finally, the Balmain x Pokémon has a digital side. The collaboration offers NFC-enabled badges for in-person purchase at nine different Balmain boutiques in America, Europe and Asia. These badges will permit exclusive access to an exceptional Balmain x Pokémon experience, filled with a range of digital content and extraordinary prizes, including VIP tickets to the upcoming Balmain Festival during Paris Fashion Week and immediate access to the Balmain Fashion set in Pokémon UNITE.
Whether you’re on the streets or making your way to a popular spot in town, if you wish to grab eyeballs, this collection ought to be on your radar.
