It’s another great day for fans of 90s era first person shooters, as we have news that the highly anticipated sci-fi title Prodeus is heading to Early Access later this year.
Announced during the PC Gaming Show today, Prodeus will first launch as an early access title in Fall 2020. We also saw some bloody, chaotic new gameplay as well as a look at the promised map editor mode.
In the trailer, we see a large array of absolutely devastating weapons to use. There’s the ability to duel wield what looks like two SMGs. At one point we also see a gun that looks as if it is made out of biological material and shoots out red beams. Of course, there’s also the ability to use your fists in true classic FPS fashion.
The trailer also shows off a bit more of the map editor mode. You can not only create your own maps, but you can share your own online and browse other players’ creations. The editor seems to have a handy grid for players to perfect the layout of the map.
Prodeus ran a successful Kickstarter campaign a year ago, which managed to accrue over six figures and gain nearly 3000 backers. TechRaptor interviewed two developers at the helm – Mike Voeller and Jason Mojica. We found that there are a lot of interesting options for players, including the ability to tweak your HUD to be more (or less) immersive. Players can even lower the resolution for a more old school feel. Regarding these tools, Mojica told TechRaptor last year:
It’s important to us that we only add features and options that fall within our vision of the game. Within that frame of mind, we’re also able to keep the style consistent without accidentally creating 10 new games at the same time. For example, being able to switch from Sprite mode to 3D mode was something we were happy to support.
I haven’t been this excited for a retro-style FPS since Amid Evil. The guys behind the project are very talented and have a lot of experience in the modding community. I have faith that they can pull this one off. Check out those awesome guns in the trailer! I love some unique weapons, and it looks like that’s going to be the case here.
