DETROIT – Good Wednesday afternoon!
Today will be partly cloudy with a slight chance for an isolated shower or thunderstorm, though most of us should get through the day dry. Highs will be in the mid 80s. A southwest wind will blow at 5 to 10 mph.
It will be partly cloudy on Wednesday night, with muggy lows near 70 degrees. A south wind will move at 5 to 10 mph.
While I believe we’ll remain dry Wednesday night, one thing I’m monitoring is a large cluster of very severe thunderstorms that will erupt across Wisconsin and track across northern Michigan. If that cluster turns more to the southeast, then our North Zone could possibly get a shower or thunderstorm late at night. But right now, I think it will stay north.
Potential for severe storms
It will be partly cloudy to start on Thursday (as long as Wednesday night remains dry), then thunderstorms will become increasingly likely by the late afternoon. Some of those storms could be severe with strong wind gusts.
Thursday highs will be in the upper 80s. Lows will be near 70 degrees.
The amount of rain we receive will obviously depend on the intensity of the storms. Right now, some models suggest that those just north or just south of a line from the cities of Port Huron to Jackson will receive the most intense rain, and could easily see between one and two inches of rain, possibly more. We’ll keep track of where the most intense storms will likely set up, and will keep you updated.
Given all the rain we’ve had recently, flooding is a big concern of mine heading into Friday.
Highs Friday will be in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees.
If you read my weather report yesterday, you may recall me saying that one computer model showed rain for Saturday while three others didn’t — well, that one computer model may actually be correct. As of now, I’m going to add some showers to the Saturday forecast (sorry), with highs near 80 degrees.
I don’t have tremendous confidence in the Saturday forecast just yet, so stay tuned as we track updates.
I’m still cautiously holding onto a partly cloudy day on Sunday, with highs in the mid 80s.
I think we will finally return to a more normal summer pattern next week.
