You’ve already got the crop tops, the Air Force 1s, and too many bucket hats to count. But to truly nail down an authentic 1990s look, there is one important (and severely underrated) item that must be included: the popcorn top.
If you rolled into class wearing one of these, any time from 1998-2003, you were automatically considered the most stylish girl in school. The super stretchy, popcorn material made for the ultimate texture moment. And when you weren’t wearing the top, it shrunk down to American Girl Doll-size–which you would then put on your doll, obviously.
It was an iconic look that is still waiting on its 2020 resurgence–and Millie Bobby Brown has just done that very thing. The Enola Holmes actress wore a sunny yellow popcorn crop for her latest Converse campaign, styling it out with matching mustard trousers and a pair of Chuck Taylor All Stars.

With 40M followers and counting, this might just be the boost we need to push popcorn tops back into the spotlight where they belong. Hopefully, these babies will soon be stocked at every Urban Outfitters in the country, but for now, the only way to shop them is through vintage retailers, like Etsy.
