Leah McSweeney Converts to Judaism

Leah McSweeney has been open about her conversion to Judaism. The designer and author first shared her big life update in Season 13 of The Real Housewives of New York City, and just this week revealed some major news about her journey: She has officially converted.

She posted the news this week to Instagram. “Post-Mikveh. Two years later and it’s official. Thank you to the people who supported me through this. You know who you are and I love you. This is just the beginning,” Leah wrote, adding, “Baruch HaShem [Thank god]!”

Leah previously explained why she felt like now was the right time in her life to convert and go on this journey. “I’ve been thinking about converting to Judaism for many, many years. Then when COVID hit, I was having, I would say, the only period of my life where I felt very disconnected from a god,” she shared on RHONY. “I quit drinking again, and I got a very deep calling to convert to Judaism.”

Not only has Leah marked a major milestone in her conversion to Judaism, but she’s also readying the release of her memoir, Chaos Theory: How to Embrace the Unexpected and Find Meaning in the Madness, which will take fans inside the many journeys her life has taken her on. It’s due out April 5.

She’s been sharing updates on her book’s release via a series of Instagrams. “As I struggle right now with some gnarly depression and anxiety like so many others, I am reminded why I wrote my book. Of course I touch on things like NYC in the 90’s, fashion, motherhood, my club days! But it’s a story about my mental health and addiction journey. It’s a JOURNEY,” Leah previously shared. “It never ends. It is not linear. Readjusting to meds is a BITCH, feelings, grieving, relationships, the pandemic, and life can be a bitch too. We must break the stigma, normalize asking for help and most importantly knowing we aren’t alone in it and there is hope. That’s why I wrote this book and what I want people to take from it.”

Leah also shared a photo from the recording booth as she recorded the audio version of the book. “I had zero idea how emotional it would be to read my memoir out loud during the recording of the audiobook. It was a great reminder for me how insidious addiction is, how life continues to throw curve balls and we must constantly figure out how to pick ourselves back up. The beautiful thing about breaking is that we can put ourselves back together again in an even more beautiful way [than] before,” she wrote. “So if reading isn’t your thing and you would rather have me read to you…you are in luck!”

And if you’re looking for even more insight from Leah into her life, she recently teased, “I’m on such a f–kin journey. Book 2 is in the works… Deep diving into yourself is terrifying thrilling but it beats deep diving into bulls–t.”
