So many barbecues were sold in the first lockdown that manufacturers had a record-breaking 2020. We love our Kamado grills and gas barbies, and give them names such as Big Red, yet come winter most of us roll them into the shed, next to the deflated unicorn with a 22ft wingspan, and forget about them.

A few hardy souls, though, continue to cook outdoors in winter.
