When the electoral college votes Monday to proclaim Joe Biden the next president of the United States, New Jersey’s 14 electoral votes will be among those pushing him to victory over President Donald Trump.
Biden, a Democrat, won the deeply blue New Jersey by a landslide, taking 2.6 million votes to the Republican Trump’s 1.9 million in an election that shattered turnout records. Biden captured 310 of the state’s 565 towns, and racked up hefty margins of victory across the Garden State’s population centers.
With an unprecedented largely mail-in election because of the coronavirus pandemic, detailed tabulations were slower in coming than in previous contests.
But a team of reporters from NJ Advance Media gathered the official results of every community in the state, from tiny Tavistock in Camden County (5 votes, all for Biden), to Ocean County GOP stronghold Lakewood (where Trump won by a 24,000-vote margin), to Jersey City and Newark (which combined delivered a 120,000-vote margin to Biden).
