The 2020 holiday season might be socially-distanced, but that doesn’t have to mean festive dressing goes out the window. A new collection created by Los Angeles designer Anine Bing and ‘90s supermodel and photographer Helena Christensen proves we can still be excited about holiday outfits, even if we’re staying home. There are photos to be taken, after all.
The first drop from the limited-edition, 10-piece Anine Bing x Helena Christensen holiday collaboration is available today at Anine Bing stores and online. The complete collection will be available next Tuesday, November 17.
The idea for the collaboration began last year when the millennial designer and Gen-X model met in New York and realized they had a lot in common. They both grew up in Denmark and modeled when they were young (clearly Christensen still does). They both have a thing for rock music. They also both have incredible cheekbones though it’s not clear that was a factor in their decision to team up.
The duo imagined a capsule collection inspired by Christensen’s ‘90s style with an edgy feel and a touch of “festive allure.”
“I’ve always embraced the classic off-duty model look, it’s been a source of inspiration for Anine Bing since day one,” the founder and CEO of the namesake fashion brand said. “Helena is such an iconic supermodel and I’ve always admired her work. When I had the chance to meet her in person we instantly connected over our Danish roots and shared interests. Working with Helena on this capsule collection has been so much fun—we’ve taken some classic styles from the 90’s and added a modern twist with a bit of edge,” she said.
Christensen lives near the West Village Anine Bing store, where she’s been frequently spotted during the pandemic on masked-up walks with her adorable miniature Australian shepherd. She says she’s been a fan of the minimalist brand for years. “This is also where I one day happened to run into Anine, we clicked, instantly and got chatting about collaborating on a project. Creating this collection with her was so special as I was able to pull inspiration from my personal style and mix that with her effortless, edgy design,” Christensen said.
Take a look at a few of the standout pieces:
Let’s call the black, 100% silk Rosalie jumpsuit ($499) “party pajamas” like my mother and her friends used to in the ‘70s. Buy it a size up for some seriously relaxed luxury. (The clutch will be available next week.)
The Claudia Blazer ($349) is the perfect winter white piece to throw on over literally anything to look dressed-up, even if it’s only for a quick photo op. And you’ll wear it all year round.
The Bing x Helena tee ($99) is an obvious go-to in our stay-home times.
And this set, which will be available next week, may be the ultimate holiday party pajama. The two-piece silk set includes the June top ($279) and the Carla pant ($249), with a touch of elastane to up the comfy factor. I’m imagining a very elegant gift-opening scene in front of a toasty fireplace.
Look for the capsule collection’s second drop next Tuesday, and further new arrivals at Anine Bing every Tuesday.
