Britney Spears is finally free from her conservatorship and is looking forward to wedding her longtime boyfriend Sam Asghari in September, which she fought for in Los Angeles court. We couldn’t wish happier news for the iconic queen of pop, and we’re all ready to celebrate in her joy. It’s Brit’s third walk down the aisle and she announced on Instagram that Donatella Versace is designing her gown “as we speak.” The Italian designer and charismatic siren congratulated Spears on social media, writing, “My heart is smiling for you, Britney. Congratulations on your regained and deserved emancipation.”

While no deets about the gown or ceremony have been revealed, we can only speculate what it might look like. Hopefully she’ll drop some hints to Oprah in their upcoming interview Spear’s just teased on Instagram. It’s no secret that the superstar has had a long love with the Versace and Donatella, who has been particularly supportive of the #FreeBritney movement. Spears stunned in sparkling mesh at the designer’s 2002 fashion show and wore not one, but two Versace gowns to the 2008 VMA’s (the night she swept her first three Moonmen for Video of the Year, Best Female Video, and Best Pop Video, all for “Piece of Me”). It was quintessential Y2K-Britney, and she was the moment.
Fellow 90’s-aughts angel Angelina Jolie also chose to wear Versace for her ceremony to Brad Pitt, constructed with ivory silk by master atelier tailor Luigi Massi and designed by Donatella. Her five children’s artwork adorned her veil and train, embroidered in playful colors and sweet floral designs. Perhaps Spears will want to weave a sentimental element into a whimsical gown too.
Or maybe Brit will wear lace, sheer like Stella Tennant’s look in the 1996 Versace Haute Couture Spring/Summer show.
Giselle Bunchen’s glowing Versace Met Gala gowns may inspire the bride too, if she’s going for something with cutouts and asymmetry, that’s sophisticated, sleek, and sexy,
Or maybe the popstar will go glam, like Kate Moss’ glittering mod-mini dress and veil on the 1995 Versace runway aside Gianni himself.
We know she loves a Marilyn moment, so maybe she’ll tap into this year’s Old Hollywood trend in bright white and simple strapping. We sure hope she still has that white fur stole.
If one thing’s for sure, it’s that Britney is getting her happily ever after. Whether the wedding will be grand and glam, or private and sentimental, we wish her and Donatella a happy matrimony in dress designing.
