// Noughties fashion stapes will drive top young fashion trends among 20-somthings, says Asos
// Over two-thirds of those between 20 and 29 plan to spend the same or more on clothes this year as they did in 2022
Fashion staples that defined the noughties are set to make a comeback this year among consumers aged between 20 and 29-years-old.
Asos design experts have predicted ballet attire and the resurgence of denim will drive the top young fashion trends this year.
Research by the online fashion powerhouse found over two-thirds (69%) of those between 20 and 29 plan to spend the same or more on clothes and fashion in 2023 compared to last year.
The top fashion trends for the year ahead will be focused on ballet core, Y2K denim, tennis shoes, 90’s inspired grunge and film.
Asos commercial design and visual director Vanessa Spence said: “Fashion remains a huge part of most 20-somethings’ lives.

“What we wear has a massive impact on how we feel and it can help uplift us, make us feel more confident, optimistic and able to express who we are.
“2023 is going to be a year dominated by film, ballet core, and grunge trends.
“We can expect to see sheer and ethereal styles, grunge and 90s fashion or ballet inspired fits on fashion-loving 20-somethings.”
Asos predicts sales of ballet pumps, base layer jersey tops and sheer slips and skirts will grow this year as ballet attire remains popular.
Sales of tennis shoes, like Adidas’ Samba and Gazelle styles, will take off with the most popular being in black, gum and white colours.
Asos said gen-Z favourite Olivia Rodrigo’s 90’s inspired grunge style will be a “leading source of style inspiration” for 20-somethings alongside Zendaya and Wednesday star Jenna Ortega.
The release of Avatar: The Way of Water and anticipated premier of The Little Mermaid will drive appetite for sheer and ethereal tops and dresses among 20-somethings, while the release of Barbie will drive sales of fuchsia pink coloured clothing.
