While Tyra was the queen of casual pants, this was also an era of boot-cut jeans. Volleyball player turned super Gabby Reece was spotted in 2000 dressed in a baby-doll T-shirt with distressed jeans, a sweatshirt tied around her waist, and a pair of sneakers. In 1994, a young Kate Moss was spotted catching a flight in a tattered white tank top, dark-wash jeans, a kicky black leather boot, a leopard-print handbag and a jacket slung over her arm.
There were polished dressers too. Let’s look to Iman, who arrived hand in hand with David Bowie at LAX in 1993 in a striped turtleneck, a slick jacket, jeans and snappy leather lace-up shoes. Also in the mix was Linda Evangelista, who in 1994 arrived wearing a slip dress over a tiny black T-shirt with lace-up boots and tights with then beau Kyle MacLachlan. Bonus points for MacLachlan, who had a flip phone in his T-shirt pocket!
Of course, there is the legendary Cindy Crawford. One fixture on Instagram mood boards is a 1997 picture of the stunner in a minimalist ensemble that includes a sleek leather jacket, a thick brown belt, a striped bag, jeans and a pair of leather boots. A few years later, the supermodel opted for a grey top, a camel-hued leather jacket and cream sweater over her shoulders.
