Why you love it: Simply the ultimate rom-com. Frankly, if you haven’t seen it, I advise you to stop reading this feature right now (ok, or once you reach the bottom of the page) and go watch it immediately. It’s a modern classic, a case of boy meets girl, boy disgusts girl, boy re-meets girl, boy is intrigued by girl, boy and girl go their separate ways but still can’t avoid falling in love — with all the wit and snap you’d expect from Nora Ephron. By the end of the movie, you’ll believe: sometimes you just know.
The style takeaway: The last time I watched the film, I paused it repeatedly to take photos of Meg Ryan as Sally Albright’s outfits. This irritated my husband to no end, but, as I told the friend I kept texting the pictures to, “Sally is my autumn style muse”. The curly lob, the boxy polo-necks tucked into high-waisted jeans, the mostly neutral palette (most of grown-up Sally’s casual looks come in a mix of cream, black and denim-blue) — with slight tweaks to proportion and styling, it could be The Row. But it’s totally Sally. What’s not to love? EC
