We are all about dopamine dressing. It’s fashion magic that can lift your mood by simply choosing an outfit that makes you smile. Try something metallic or ruffled or with rainbows and see how much happier you feel… But flouncing around the house in sequins isn’t always practical and sometimes (just sometimes, mind) we need to resort to a comfy pair of women’s joggers and a messy topknot to battle that to do list.
We’re ignoring the late Karl Lagerfeld’s infamous quote that “You lost control of your life so you bought some sweatpants.” We didn’t lose control hun, a pandemic happened. Despite being fashion anathema for many seasons, sweatpants are a staple in every single wardrobe around the country so that is reason enough to take them seriously. And we really are.
But just because joggers have come to the fore as everyday outfits and essential lockdown loungewear, it doesn’t mean you should leave them at home when we get our lives back. A sustainable shopping option is to aim for 30 wears from every single item in your wardrobe. If the only way you’re wearing your joggers is with fluffy slippers and a sweatshirt, let us suggest some other ways to style them…
How to style joggers
1. If you have a matching hoodie for your joggers wear them as modern co-ord, then slip on a single breasted leather blazer and ultra-chunky boots. Add a baseball cap for a street-style worthy lewk. Bonus points if you choose khaki, grey and cream shades.
2. French tuck a denim shirt into the joggers (find a side-striped version if you can) then add heels and super-sized crystal jewels for cocktail evenings (over Zoom or IRL.)
3. Or wear a slim-fit pair of joggers with an oversized white shirt, suit-style jacket (a navy blazer with gold buttons would be ideal) and add loafers for a preppy vibe that owes more than a little style inspiration to Princess Diana off-duty.
